Partners Up-Close: FiveStars
As our Growth Campaign continues to attract support and enthusiasm in promoting the Klaytn blockchain and its ecosystem and the first installment in our “Learning Klaytn” series of articles launched to a warm reception, we’d like to open yet another chapter for our community - “Partners Up-Close”.
In this series of articles, we’ll try to introduce our community to the numerous partners of Klaytn that help make up its ecosystem. As we’ve already said, besides the Klaytn Governance Council, there are four groups of Klaytn partners: Ecosystem Partners, Initial Service Partners, KLAY BApp Partners and Investors. We hope you will enjoy this series and that it will help you satisfy your curiosity about exploring the KLAY ecosystem.
Today we take a look at one of the KLAY BApp Partners (enterprise partners that have recognized Klaytn’s vision and decided to utilize KLAY to facilitate rewards and payments in their apps) - FiveStars, developed by SkyPeople and utilizing Mineral Token. Lots of names thrown around there so let's start at the beginning with
SkyPeople
SkyPeople is a game development company founded back in 2014 by a team of experienced game developers. The company focused on mobile games and have already had a hit role-playing game (RPG) called Final Blade, launched back in 2017.
The game was a success in more than 150 countries worldwide and the company became interested in exploring blockchain technology, so in 2018, they’ve partnered up with Tron, adding new features to the game while running a Tron Supernode.
Taking a glance at their GooglePlay listing, we can see that the game has more than 100k installs on GooglePlay alone.
Ok, so far so good, established company, hit mobile game, blockchain integration experience and the ever-expanding mobile game market equal - next project:
FiveStars
FiveStars is the next project SkyPeople are currently working on. It is a turn-based side-scrolling collective role-playing game (RPG) that utilizes blockchain technology to handle several key aspects of the game. It will be available as a mobile game for iOS and Android systems (the alpha version apparently already passed the Google Play Store and Apple App Store screening) as well as web-browsers.
We must say that the game looks impressive, with a lot of man-hours and effort pushed into it, but we’ll let the graphics above speak for themselves.
Back to the blockchain side of things, in addition to Klaytn, SkyPeople will collaborate with Hedera Hashgraph, which will help them store game logs on Hedera’s network. According to SkyPeople, they currently have 60 devs working on the game as well as maintaining Final Blade, and a separate development team working on the Mineral Hub Token - the future in-game currency issues on the Klaytn blockchain.
Mineral Hub Token
According to the project’s whitepaper , “Mineral token (MNR) is the primary currency of the Mineral Hub ecosystem. It will act as a primary currency across multiple games, allowing players to buy and sell in-game items as non-fungible tokens.” Klaytn comes into the picture as the underlying blockchain, with MNR being a fungible (KIP-7) token on the KLAY blockchain and the in-game items mentioned earlier being non-fungible (KIP-17) tokens.
While onboarding users without access to cryptocurrencies or means of attaining them might be a disadvantage, the solution comes in the way Klaytn allows developers to subsidize the network fees required to onboard users. This means players can join and start playing without payment - which is only required when buying and selling items.
To counter some of the effects “high velocity” token exchanges caused by a large number of players using it on the value of the token, SkyPeople intends to implement staking, as well as token burns - two token mechanics that have become increasingly popular with crypto investors in the past couple of years.
MNR was recently listed on Coinone and is already trading. For more details on the token itself, refer to Chapter 5 of the aforementioned whitepaper.
